John Ganzoni, 2nd Baron Belstead

John Julian Ganzoni, 2nd Baron Belstead (born September 30, 1932 in Ipswich , Suffolk ; † December 3, 2005 ibid) was a British Conservative Party politician who was a member of the House of Lords from 1958 until his death and, among other things, Lord Seal Keeper as well as was Paymaster General .

Life

Professional career, Member of the House of Lords and Junior Minister

Ganzoni studied after visiting the Eton College at Christ Church College of Oxford University and was then as a teacher and principal of a Preparatory School worked before he farmer was in Suffolk.

After the death of his father John Ganzoni, 1st Baron Belstead , a long-time member of the House of Commons , John Ganzoni succeeded it on August 15, 1958 as 2nd Baron Belstead and thus a member of the House of Lords. In 1962, he was beyond magistrate ( Justice of Peace ) of the County of Suffolk.

During his long membership in the House of Lords he devoted himself in particular to questions of education policy and took over his first government office as "Junior Minister" in 1970 when he became Parliamentary Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Education, headed by Margaret Thatcher . From 1973 to 1974 he was Parliamentary Undersecretary of State in the Ministry for Northern Ireland .

After the subsequent defeat of the Conservative Tories in the general election of February 28, 1974 , which led to the end of Prime Minister Edward Heath's reign , he became chairman of the Association of Public Schools Governing Bodies and held this office until 1979, between 1977 and 1979 was also chairman of the United Committee of Independent Schools .

He exercised this function until November 28, 1990 and was also the successor of John Wakeham as Lord Privy Seal during this time .

He was subsequently appointed Paymaster General ( Paymaster General ) in 1990 as the successor to Richard Ryder and held this office until April 11, 1992, where he was also Minister of State in the Northern Ireland Ministry. He was succeeded in his previous offices as Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Seal Keeper was Lord Waddington .

He died unmarried and childless in 2005, which also meant that his hereditary titles were no longer valid.

Ganzoni was a member of the Freemasonry Association and held various offices in the United Grand Lodge of England .
