John Wakeham, Baron Wakeham PC (born June 22, 1932 in Godalming , Surrey , England ) is a British economic manager and politician of the Conservative Party .

biography

After attending the traditional, elite Charterhouse School , Wakeham did his military service in the British Army . He then worked in the private sector and until 1974 held around 60 directorships at companies .

His political career began as a candidate of the Conservative Party in 1974 with the election of deputies in the lower house ( House of Commons ) , in which he at first the constituency Maldon represented. He then represented the constituency of Colchester South and Maldon between 1983 and 1992 .

In 1981 he took on his first post as “Junior Minister” as Undersecretary and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Industry until 1982 . After subsequent work as a Minister of State to the Treasury ( Treasury ) he was from 1983 to 1986 Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury.

Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher finally appointed him as Lord Seal Keeper in her expanded cabinet in 1987 and appointed him Lord President of the Council from 1988 to 1989 as part of a cabinet reshuffle .
