Stephen Dorrell (* 25. March 1952 in Worcester , Worcestershire , England ) is a British politician of the Liberal Democrats (formerly he was the Conservative Party on), the 1979-2015 member of the House of Commons and, among others, Minister of National Heritage, and was Minister of Health.

Life

After attending school in Uppingham Dorrell studied at Brasenose College of the University of Oxford . During his studies in 1974 he was personal assistant to Peter Walker , who was, among other things, Minister of Commerce and Industry in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edward Heath . In the general election of October 1974 , he ran for the first time, but without success as a candidate for the Conservative Party in the constituency of Kingston-upon-Hull East for a seat in the House of Commons. In the general election of May 3, 1979 , he was elected to the House of Commons for the first time in the Loughborough constituency and has been a member of the House of Commons since the May 1, 1997 general election for the Charnwood constituency .

Afterwards he was appointed to the shadow cabinet of his party and belonged to it until 1998 as "shadow minister for education and employment". He was later a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Consolidation Laws from November 2005 to May 2010 and has been both a member of the House of Commons Cooperation Committee and chairman of the House of Commons Health Committee since 2010. In the general election of May 6, 2010, Dorrell was re-elected as a member of the House of Commons with 49.53 percent of the vote in his constituency. In 2015 he was no longer bidding for the Charnwood headquarters.

On April 14, 2019, he briefly moved from the Conservative Party to Change UK - The Independent Group , but on October 6, 2019 he joined the Liberal Democrats and will vote for them in the 2019 general election in the Buckingham constituency , which was formerly of Speaker John Bercow was represented, apply.
