John Derek Taylor, Baron Taylor of Holbeach CBE FRSA (* 12. November 1943 ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party and since 2006 a member of the House of Lords .

Life

Conservative Party official

Taylor attended Primary School in Holbeach , St. Felix School in Felixstowe and Bedford College . Then he worked in the private sector.

He began his political engagement in the mid-1960s and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Conservative Party in the East Midlands region between 1966 and 1998 . In the general election on February 28 and October 10, 1974 , he ran unsuccessfully in the constituency of Chesterfield for a seat in the House of Commons .

Between 1982 and 1987 he was involved in various working groups for the European light bulb industry and was a member of the Conservative Party's finance committee from 1985 to 1989. In addition to his work as a member of the Horticultural Development Council from 1986 to 1991, he was a member of the Regional Committee of the Department of Agriculture for the East of England between 1990 and 1992 and then in 1996 for the East Midlands.

For his services he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1992.

Taylor, who was also a member of the Committee for Gardens Administration in the Diocese of Lincoln for the first time from 1995 to 2001 , was also a member of the management committee of the Conservative Tories for the first time between 1996 and 1998 and also chaired the candidate committee from 1997 to 1998 and at the same time president of his party's party conferences.

By 2000 Taylor took on numerous prominent roles in the Conservative Party, from 2000 to 2003 he was vice chairman, chairman of the National Conservative Convention and again a member of his party's management committee. In addition, he was chairman of the party's international organization ( Conservatives Abroad ) between 2001 and 2009, and again chairman of the Tories Candidate Committee from 2002 to 2005, and finally chairman of the pension fund for Conservative Party employees between 2006 and 2010. Since 2004 he has also been a member of the Garden Management Committee in the Diocese of Lincoln.

Member of the House of Lords

On June 5, 2006, Taylor was raised to the nobility as a life peer with the title Baron Taylor of Holbeach , of South Holland in the County of Lincolnshire, and has been a member of the House of Lords ever since .

During his membership in the House of Lords, he was Deputy Chief Whip 2006 first spokesman for the opposition Tory Group on the environment, for Wales and for work and pensions. He was then from January 2007 to January 2009 shadow minister for the environment, food and rural affairs in the shadow cabinet of the Conservatives and between January 2009 and May 2010 shadow minister for labor and pensions.

After the Conservative Party won the general election on May 6, 2010 and Prime Minister David Cameron took office , Baron Taylor became government spokesman for Cabinet Office, Energy and Climate Change, and Employment and Pensions.

Since 2011 he has been Parliamentary Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, making him one of the closest staff to Minister Caroline Spelman .
