Tariq Ahmad, Baron Ahmad of Wimbledon
Tariq Mahmood Ahmad, Baron Ahmad of Wimbledon (born April 3, 1968 in London ) is a British - Pakistani businessman and politician ( Conservative Party ). After Mohamed Sheikh, Baron Sheikh and Sayeeda Warsi, Baroness Warsi, Ahmad has been the third Muslim life peer for the Tories in the House of Lords since 2011 .
life and career
Education and employment
Ahmad was born in London in the Wimbledon Park district. There he grew up and attended school. He completed his studies as a business graduate ; His focus was on finance ( financing ) and capital investments ( investment ). He earned a Bachelor of Honors (BA Hons) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB).
From 1991 to 2000 he worked for the NatWest Group . He was a director at the asset management company Alliance Capital from 2000 to 2003. He has been the Strategy and Marketing Director of Sucden Financial Limited since 2004 .
Political career
In 1994 he joined the Conservative Party . From 1997 to 2002 he was Deputy Chairman ( Deputy Chairman ) of the Wimbledon Conservative Association , where he was Executive Officer from 1999 to 2001 and Deputy Chairman ( Vice Chairman ) from 1999 to 2001 . From 2008 to 2010 he was Chairman ( Vice Chairman ) of the Conservative Party for the boroughs of the City of London and the City of Westminster .
He has held various positions at the local level. He was a member of the Merton Racial Equality Council from 1994 to 1997 . In the Council ( Merton Council ) of the London Borough of Merton , he became a Councilor ( Councilor ) in 2002 . From 2003 to 2006 he was the School Governor of the Wimbledon Park School . From 2006 to 2008 he was in the Council of the London Borough of Merton Member ( Cabinet Member ) for Environment and Transport ( Environment and Transport ). Since 2008 he has been this for the areas of community safety and voluntary engagement . He was the Merton Council opposition spokesman for the Conservative Party's Lead Spokesperson on Environment and Regeneration . He resigned as a councilor in March 2012 to focus on his duties in the House of Lords and his future fatherly duties. Ahmad is a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community . He is a member of the Conservative Friends of Pakistan and, since 2003, the Conservative Friends of India .
Membership in the House of Lords
Ahmad was born on 13 January 2011. Life peer as Baron Ahmed of Wimbledon, of Wimbledon in the London Borough of Merton appointed. The official introduction to the House of Lords took place on January 17, 2011 with the support of Sayeeda Warsi, Baroness Warsi and Michael Howard . He gave his inaugural speech on February 3, 2011. Ahmad was one of the signatories to an open letter to the Times newspaper in February 2012 criticizing the decision to return Formula 1 to Bahrain after protests were cracked down there.
