David Patrick Paul Alton, Baron Alton of Liverpool (born March 15, 1951 ) is a British politician and author.

Career

He was elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal Party MP for Liverpool in 1979. At the time, he was the youngest incumbent MP and thus “Baby of the House”. He was re-elected twice and did not run for the 1997 general election. On July 12, 1997, he was raised to life peer as Baron Alton of Liverpool , of Mossley Hill in the County of Merseyside, and thus became a member of the House of Lords . He's sitting there as a crossbencher .

In February 2009 he announced his membership in the pan-European organization Libertas , which rejects the Lisbon Treaty . By becoming a member of Alton, Libertas met the criteria necessary to be recognized as a European political party .
