John Nash, Baron Nash

John Alfred Stoddard Nash, Baron Nash (born March 22, 1949 ) is a British businessman, Conservative Party politician and Member of the House of Lords .

Professional career

Nash studied law at Corpus Christi College , Oxford, and became a lawyer before moving into finance. Nash was Assistant Director of Lazard Brothers and Co Ltd from 1975–1983 before becoming Managing Director of private equity firm Advent Limited in 1986 . He is co-founder of the private equity company Sovereign Capital , which was founded in 1988. He was Chairman of the British Venture Capital Association in 1988 and 1989 and sits on the Board of the Center for Policy Studies . He is also the former Chairman of Care UK , one of the National Health Service's largest contractors .

Political career

In 2013 it was announced that he would become Minister of Schools for the Department for Education . He was also peered as Baron Nash, of Ewelme in the County of Oxfordshire Life on January 21, 2013 . Together with his wife, he donated nearly £ 300,000 to the Conservative Party and, according to The Telegraph, that raises concerns about his party donations and a possible conflict of interest, even though the Department of Education said he would not make any business decisions while in office.
