Gareth Wyn Williams

Gareth Wyn Williams, Baron Williams of Mostyn (born February 5, 1941 , † September 20, 2003 in Evenlode ) was a British politician.

Williams was born in a taxi that was on the way to Mostyn near Prestatyn in North Wales .

He graduated in Law at Queens' College of the University of Cambridge as a Bachelor of Law (1964) and Master of Arts (1965), and he was in 1965 at the Gray's Inn as a barrister admitted. In the following years he completed a legal career at various courts in the country. In 1978 he was appointed Queen's Counsel appointed (Queen's Counsel). In 1992 he was raised to a Life Peer as Baron Williams of Mostyn , of Great Tew in the County of Oxfordshire , and received a seat in the House of Lords .

After the Labor Party electoral victory in 1997, he held various positions as Under-Secretary of State and State Minister in the Tony Blair government . From 1999 to 2001 he was Attorney General for England and Wales and Northern Ireland. In 2001 he was named Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Privy Seal . In this position he supported Blair's reform efforts, which aimed to limit the political power of the hereditary nobility and led to the House of Lords Act 1999 .

At the age of 62, Lord Williams of Mostyn died of a heart attack. He left four children from two marriages.
