Anton Kling (born November 26, 1881 in Vienna , † September 21, 1963 in Karlsruhe ) was an Austrian painter .

Kling studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts from 1898–1903 and carried out work for the Wiener Werkstätte (postcards) and as a "decorative employee" at the Fledermaus Cabaret . He was a student of Gustav Klimt and had an exhibition in the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna in 1983.

In 1908 Kling was appointed professor at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts , and from 1923 to 1927 he was director of the Pforzheim School of Applied Arts. In 1927 he moved to Karlsruhe; from 1930 to 1944 lecturer at the state technical center in Karlsruhe. He was married to Ida Marie Kling. After his death in 1963, his son, lawyer Anton Kling, continued and expanded the collection in a similarly demanding manner.

The focus of Anton Kling's book art collection in Karlsruhe is the Art Nouveau Viennese style and the early publications of Insel-Verlag . There is also a large variety of illustrated books, mostly in special editions and with original graphics. The collector Anton Kling himself worked as an illustrator and book designer - from 1918 to 1923 he was artistic director of the “Hamburger Presse” - and therefore had the high quality standards that guided him in building up his beautiful book collection.

Works: book designs, bookplates, designs for glass windows and ceramics.
