Malacocoris chlorizans is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 3.7 to 4.2 millimeters long. The species can be easily identified by means of the compound eyes that are quite far forward and the green spotted hemielytras .

Occurrence and habitat

The species is widespread in Europe and to the east as far as the Caspian region. It was introduced into North America by humans. It is widespread in Germany and Austria and occurs more frequently in the south than in the north. It colonizes fringes and hedges and is mainly found in the interior of the leafy trees or in partially shaded places. She avoids direct sunlight.

Way of life

The bugs feed mainly predatory and live on shrubs and trees, especially on common hazel ( Corylus avellana ). They are much less common on other deciduous trees such as alder ( Alnus ), elm ( Ulmus ), willow ( Salix ), poplar ( Populus ), linden ( Tilia ), apples ( Malus ) or oak ( Quercus ). They suckle on aphids , leaf fleas and other small insects and mites, but also on plant sap . The adult bugs appear from the end of July. The mating occurs mainly in August. In September they become increasingly rare, females can be found occasionally until October. In Great Britain there are two generations per year between May and October; in Central Europe it is only one. The females stick their eggs in depressions and crevices on the host plants.
