The Orthotylinae are a subfamily of the soft bugs (Miridae) from the suborder Cimicomorpha .

features

The pretarsi have diverging, lamellar parempodia on the claws. Similar structured parempodia also occur in the tribe Pilophorini , which, however , was placed in the family Phylinae due to its male genitalia . The male and female genitals of the Orthotylinae have particular structural features that suggest that the group is monophyletic .

Occurrence and way of life

The subfamily is common worldwide. It is particularly species-rich in South America and Australia. There are more than 220 types known worldwide . There are 38 genera in Europe, and around 50 in North America.

Most bedbugs feed mainly on predatory food (e.g. plant lice ). But there are also species that suck on the leaves of various plants and are therefore considered to be pests. All species overwinter as an egg.

Taxonomy and systematics

The Orthotylinae are divided into three to five tribes:

Coridromiini and Nichomachini are also recognized as tribe by some authors .
