Heterocordylus tumidicornis is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae). The genus Heterocordylus is represented by 5 species in Central Europe.

features

The bugs reach a length of 4.2 to 4.8 mm. The second antenna element is widened. The black adults are speckled with white. The membrane is dark. The larvae have a red abdomen with a black color in the middle on the upper side. The head, thorax , antennae, wing pouches and legs of the larvae are black.

distribution

The species is common in large parts of Europe. It is absent in the British Isles , in northern Scandinavia and in the southern Mediterranean. In the east the occurrence of the species extends to Asia Minor and the Caucasus .

Way of life

The adults and nymphs are found on blackthorn ( Prunus spinosa ), the host plant of the species. They feed on zoophytophagus. Their prey animals include aphids as well as web moths - caterpillars . But the bugs also suckle on unripe berries and buds of their host plants. The larvae appear on the host plants at the end of April. The adults can be seen between the end of May and August. The univoltine species overwinters as an egg.
