Pseudoloxops coccineus is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 4.1 to 4.5 millimeters long. The strikingly colored animals have orange and red spotted hemielytres . The first antenna segment is red and has dark hairs. The wing veins of the membrane of the hemielytres and the sides of the pronotum are also drawn in red.

Occurrence and habitat

The species is mainly found in Europe and occurs from North Africa across the Mediterranean to southern Scandinavia and southeast to the Caucasus. It was introduced into North America by humans. It occurs everywhere in Germany and Austria, but has only been proven in places. It can be frequent locally. Host plants are settled in damp and shady alluvial forests, but also isolated trees.

Way of life

Pseudoloxops coccineus lives on the common ash ( Fraxinus excelsior ), in southern Central Europe also on manna ash ( Fraxinus ornus ). They feed mainly on aphids and leaf fleas , especially their larvae in the latter. The bugs are only found on trees that are already fertile. Mostly females of the species appear, the males can only be observed briefly during the mating season. The adults can be found in July and August, females can be found occasionally until September.
