Halticus luteicollis is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 2.8 to 3.6 millimeters long. The very small species of the genus Halticus can be recognized by their pale legs and the very long antennae that are longer than the body. Halticus luteicollis has a pale head and the pronotum is often also partially pale. The head is very narrow and tapering to a point. The thighs ( femora ) are pale and have a dark base. The adult bugs are always fully winged (macropter) and covered with flaky, golden hairs.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed from southern Scandinavia to North Africa and east to the European part of Russia and across Asia Minor to the Caucasus . It is widespread in Germany and is only absent in the northwestern German lowlands. It is just as widespread in Austria and not uncommon, especially in the south. The warmth-loving species is limited in the north and at higher altitudes to sunny peripheral areas, otherwise it also occurs in shady places.
Way of life
The bugs suckle on various herbaceous plants, in particular on common clematis ( Clematis vitalba ), where small white spots appear at the puncture points on the leaves. The adult bugs can be seen in July and August.
