Orthotylus nassatus is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 4.6 to 5.1 millimeters long. The species of the genus Orthotylus are predominantly green in color. Many are extremely similar and are therefore very difficult to determine based on external characteristics. The host plants of the respective individuals are therefore an important indicator. Orthotylus nassatus has a blue-green basic color. The first antenna segment is pale when viewed from above, but has a dark line below.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed in Europe and Asia east to Siberia and from Asia Minor to the Caucasus. It was introduced by humans in North America (first recorded in 1977 in Pennsylvania , later also on Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia , Canada). It is widespread and not uncommon in Germany and Austria.
Way of life
The bugs live on linden trees ( Tilia ) and less often on oaks ( Quercus ). Even less frequently used host plants include ash ( Fraxinus ), alder ( Alnus ), willow ( Salix ) or poplar ( Populus ). The animals presumably feed on zoophytophagus. Adult bedbugs can be seen from mid-July to September.
