Odo Reuter

Odo Morannal Reuter (born April 28, 1850 in Turku ; † September 2, 1913 there ) was a Swedish-speaking Finnish entomologist and poet.

Reuter studied zoology from 1867 at the University of Helsinki , where he received his master's degree in 1873 and his doctorate in 1877. Then he was a lecturer there and from 1888 professor. In 1910 he retired after being on leave for five years due to a serious illness.

He specializes in Schnabelkerfe (Hemiptera), but also treated other groups of insects. In 1913 he coined the term parasitoid .

Reuter was a supporter of Charles Darwin and made him and Ernst Haeckel known in Finland in popular scientific publications.

He is also known as a poet (in Swedish), published collections of poetry, and was a literary critic.

On October 21, 1884 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
