Cyllecoris histrionius is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 5.9 to 8.0 millimeters long. They are very noticeably colored and have an elongated body. Her pronotum, which is strongly narrowed at the front, is largely black and has a conspicuous collar that is colored yellow or white. The nymphs are light blue-green.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed in Europe and North Africa and east across Asia Minor to the Caucasus. It is widespread and common in Germany and Austria.
Way of life
The bugs live zoophytophag on oaks ( Quercus ). They appear early in the year and can be observed as adults for a long time. The nymphs appear from April, and the first adult bugs can be found in mid to late May. The mating takes place mainly in the first half of June, until mid-July at the latest the females who have laid their eggs in rows on the young shoots of the oaks die. Both males and females are able to fly and can be seen on linden ( Tilia ), maple ( Acer ), birch ( Betula ) and hazel ( Corylus ) in addition to oaks . In Germany, however, they only suckle on oaks, in Scandinavia they are also said to suckle on winter linden ( Tilia cordata ). The nymphs sit predominantly on the underside of the leaves. The young adults primarily suckle on the reproductive organs of the plants, while older adults suckle almost exclusively predatory on aphids , leaf fleas , insect eggs and small caterpillars, sometimes also on honeydew .
