Adrian Johnston

Adrian Johnston (* 1961 in Carlisle , Cumbria , Great Britain ) is an English musician and film composer .

Life

Born and raised on a farm in Carlisle , Adrian began playing the piano and writing his own compositions at an early age. He also tried pop music and played drums for Mike Scott's band Another Pretty Face , which eventually became The Waterboys , and The Mike Flowers Pops ; he was involved in the production of the Christmas hit Wonderwall (an easy-listening version of the Oasis classic) from 1995. So far, this single has sold more than half a million times worldwide.

In 1996, Johnston Michael Winterbottom caught the eye for playing the straw violin on the set with heart and soul . This led to Adrian's first score for them and collaborations on over five films such as Welcome to Sarajevo , With Or Without You and I want you . But he also worked more often with Stephen Poliakoff , for example at Friends & Crocodiles and Gideon's Daughter .

Adrian's style is very eclectic. He wrote music for horror and action films as well as for romance films , comedies , silent films and literary adaptations .

He has composed over 70 pieces of music for theater companies, including the Citizens Theater in Glasgow and the National Theater in London . He was also involved in various dance projects, such as Strange Fish and Enter Achilles , Touched and Birds .

In addition to gold for Wonderwall , he also won an Emmy for Shackleton in 2008 . He was also nominated for a BAFTA award with his music for The Lost Prince , Tipping the Velvet , Perfect Strangers and Our Mutual Friends .
