action
Honda, a 14 year old Bosnian boy, is an orphan and lives with his older sister Smokey in a small English coastal town. Smokey makes a living as a singer in a nightclub. Honda hasn't spoken since the mother's suicide. His hobby is recording other people's conversations and his sister's numerous co-sleeping activities on tape.
One day he meets the much older Helen, who is also an orphan and runs a hairdressing salon in town. She doesn't allow her boyfriend to sleep even though they've been together for six months. Honda falls in love with Helen.
Martin, who is on parole, reappears in town after a long prison sentence. Nine years earlier, Helen reported to Honda, he was said to have killed her father when he caught him in bed with Helen, who was then underage. Martin is now trying to take up his relationship with Helen again. However, this eludes him.
Honda records the conversations and the unique cohabitation of the two. When Martin presses Helen again, Honda intervenes. Martin accuses him that Helen herself killed her father and that he was punished in her stead. Thereupon Helen kills Martin and escapes from the city. In retrospect, the police assume that it was self-defense.
Reviews
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was “ strongly stylized ” and “ immersed in suggestive moods and artistic images ”. It is "structured optically and acoustically complex " and revolves around "the content of questions of guilt and speechlessness ". He also addresses the " advanced decay of modernity ".
Rotten Tomatoes wrote that the film was a " beautifully filmed ", " realistic " erotic thriller. The representations are " fascinating ", especially those by Rachel Weisz (" alluring performances of its attractive cast (most notably, the stunning Weisz) "). The director proves once again that he can breathe new life into the apparently worn-out genre.
