Alessandro Antine Nivola (born June 28, 1972 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actor .

Life

The son of an Italian academic and an American grew up in his native city of Boston. Fascinated by acting from an early age, Nivola attended a summer theater camp and began acting at the Eugene O'Neill Theater in Waterford , Connecticut . He received a BA in English Literature from Yale University with Honors in 1994 and later moved to New York to pursue a serious acting career in the theater. Nivola has been regularly seen on the big screen since the mid-1990s. For his second film role as the brother of Nicolas Cage in the thriller In the Body of the Enemy(1997) won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in an Adventure Film.

The 1.75 m tall actor received his first leading role a year later in Michael Winterbottom's British drama I want you , in which Rachel Weisz was his film partner. This was followed by film roles on both sides of the Atlantic, where he became known to a large US audience for his portrayal of Billy Brennan in Joe Johnston's US $ 93 million action film Jurassic Park III alongside Sam Neill . In 2004, he received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the Independent Spirit Award for the part of Frances McDormand's teenage lover in the US independent film Laurel Canyon (2003) . In 2005 Nivola played an English professional footballer in Goal - Live Your Dream , an athlete drama that traces the rise of a young American football talent (played by Kuno Becker ) from the Latino district of Los Angeles to the English Premier League . The sequel Goal II followed in 2007 - the dream is real! and the male lead in the drama The Girl in the Park , starring Sigourney Weaver and Kate Bosworth . In 2008 he appeared in front of the camera with Jessica Alba in the horror film The Eye .

In addition to acting, Alessandro Nivola also appeared as a singer in the films Laurel Canyon and the award-winning independent comedy Junikäfer (2005). He has been married to his English actress colleague Emily Mortimer since January 3, 2003 , with whom he appeared in front of the camera in Kenneth Branagh's Shakespeare adaptation Lost Love Labor (2000). Their son was born on September 26, 2003. In 2004 the family moved to Los Angeles .
