action
That you only encounter something special once in life is the motto of Nat, who relates this sentence to a woman to whom he was once very attached. His son Flynn, however, is thinking more of his father, whom he was allowed to experience and had to experience as something really special in a negative sense: Nat lies and cheats where he can, is not particularly reliable and lives his life by parasitism, based on freebies, quiz wins and partner or friendship offers.
And finally, Flynn's father made sure that he lost his job at the health department and that his friend Maggie had doubts about him. Nat and Flynn haven't seen each other in four years; It's been that long since Flynn was released from prison serving a sentence that was actually intended for Nat. But now the old man is back and wants his son to chauffeur him to New Mexico. Allegedly, Nat has a brain tumor, which means that he will not have much longer to live, and wants to start special therapy there. Flynn is persuaded, but is plagued by strong doubts about the truth of what his father is telling him.
Nat, who previously made his living on an average of five dollars a day, suddenly wants to cover all of the costs of the trip from Atlantic City to New Mexico for two people. It is foreseeable that this cannot be achieved without a few small scams and a lot of stress. Flynn uses the time to answer questions about his past and to speak to his girlfriend Maggie, who has just left him, the data of his real life (of course, in proper style with several giveaway phones) on the answering machine. While he is still busy coming to terms with his past, he suddenly learns surprising things about his real origin - at least the way his father suddenly presents it to him in exchange for a larger sum of money from a previously unknown source. In the end, both a sad and a happy surprise await Flynn.
