Santiago "Santi" Muñez is a young football talent from the United States . He has loved football since childhood and has a big dream: he wants to play in a top European team. He lives illegally in Los Angeles with his father, grandmother and brother, having fled Mexico to the United States ten years earlier . Santiago's mother left her husband and two children.
Santiago plays for the Mexican immigrant club Los Americanos Jóvenes FC . As a striker he is the man for the goals and has to get the balls from far behind. He determines the game of his team, which only becomes successful through him. One day, watching him Glen Foy, a former talent scout from Newcastle United . He tries to organize a trial training for Santiago. But the English talent scout, who is in California at the time, is not interested. He doesn't show up at a game in Santiago as agreed. So Glen tries it directly with Erik Dornhelm, the manager of the Magpies (Newcastle United). He promises to let Santiago do a trial session.
For years, Santiago has been saving the money he makes gardening with his father and in a Chinese restaurant. When he almost had the money for the flight to England, his father spent it on a new work car. He doesn't want his boy to go to England, so the two of them quarrel. One day, however, Santiago's grandmother gives him a ticket to London. Without saying goodbye to his father, he flies to Europe. However, there he has problems showing his skills because he is not used to the weather conditions. He doesn't get along well with some team-mates either. But then everything suddenly happens very quickly: He falls in love with the assistant to the club doctor and moves up from the B-team to the starting eleven. When he came off the bench in a game against Fulham, he made a big appearance and his father, in an English pub in Los Angeles, saw him proudly on television.
But the latter dies unexpectedly of a heart attack a short time later and is found dead by Santiago's little brother. Santiago is shaken by the news and decides to return home to take over his father's company. At the airport, however, he decides to stay in England in order to realize his football dream.
In the game Newcastle United against Liverpool FC he is allowed to play for the first time from the start. Newcastle must win to play in the Champions League the following season. With an assist and a free kick from Santiago, Newcastle finally wins 3-2. While still standing in the square, Muñez receives a call from his grandmother. She tells him that she and her other grandson watched the game and are thrilled. She also learned in the bar where they saw the game that Santiago's father saw his performance against Fulham and was proud.

Reviews
"The classic athlete melodrama relocates the 'American dream' from dishwasher to millionaire in the European football stadium and covers it with the sugar of South American telenovelas."
