The two-footed boum song began his career with US Palaiseau , for which he played from 1995 to 1997. He then played for Le Havre AC until 2000 , before moving to AJ Auxerre . His next stop was in 2004 with the Glasgow Rangers . Although Boumsong had signed in Glasgow for five years, he moved to Newcastle United in January 2005 , where he received a five and a half year contract.
Due to many mistakes in the dress of the Magpies , he moved in the summer of 2006 for 4.8 million euros from Newcastle to the Italian record champions Juventus Turin , who had to be relegated to Serie B due to the 2005/06 manipulation scandal . There he signed a four-year contract and was a regular player under coach Didier Deschamps in the defense in the 2006/07 season . With Juve Boumsong succeeded in the direct promotion to the Serie A . At the beginning of the 2007/08 season , the Frenchman was often only a reserve player, on 7 September 2007 he seriously injured his left thigh in a friendly against Real Zaragoza and had to take a break for several months. On his return, Boumsong scored the equalizer in the Coppa Italia game at Inter Milan to make it 2-2. Nevertheless, he moved a few days later, on January 26, 2008, for three million euros to Olympique Lyon , where he signed a three-year contract. He justified this decision with the fact that he needed match practice to keep his chances of participating in the European Championship with the national team. On July 28, 2010 it was announced that he was moving to the Greek double winner Panathinaikos Athens . There he signs a three-year contract.

As a result, he completed two qualifying games for the 2008 European Championship and was appointed to the French squad for the tournament by coach Raymond Domenech . There he was substituted on in the decisive preliminary round match against Italy after the red card from Éric Abidal for the previously substituted Samir Nasri in the 26th minute for tactical reasons.
