Radio Tropic
Radio Tropic 93 was a Swiss private broadcaster under the direction of Frédéric Dru, which played mainly light music from Africa, South America, Asia and Europe. The program should be an expression of the connection to other cultures.
At the beginning of October 2007, Roger Schawinski bought Radio Tropic from Frédéric Dru. Radio Tropic's program was discontinued in December 2007 to make way for its successor, Radio 1 , which, under the direction of Schawinski, has been broadcasting a program “only for adults” (according to advertising) since March 2008.
Range and program
The station could be received in the greater Zurich area and in certain other areas of Switzerland. In contrast to other stations, whose programs can hardly be distinguished from one another in their basic structures (see: Adult Contemporary ), Radio Tropic relied on tropical music, low language content , little advertising and multicultural news and entertainment. It could therefore be viewed as exotic, because the music played usually did not appear in the top 30. News was also broadcast from the Zurich region, Radio France Internationale and the British BBC in English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish.
concession
In 1997, Radio Tropic was granted a broadcasting license for the first time by DETEC (Federal Department for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communication). The complaint of other applicants who were dissatisfied with this allocation was rejected by DETEC in July 1998. In 2004 the concession was renewed. The period of validity extends from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2014 at the latest and passed to Radio 1 through the change of ownership in 2007 .
