Kieron Courtney Dyer (born December 29, 1978 in Ipswich , England ) is an English football player . The midfielder , who started out very quickly, was also England's national player between 1999 and 2007 . His susceptibility to injuries caused frequent sporting setbacks during his career.

Career

society

His career began in 1996 at his youth club Ipswich Town , from whose youth team he switched to the professionals. In his first season he was able to establish himself in the team and developed a reputation as one of the best young talents outside of the Premier League . He spent three years on Portman Road and then got his clearance when Ipswich failed to advance to the top division so as not to jeopardize his international ambitions.

He moved to Newcastle United for the equivalent of around eight million euros, which is currently still the record transfer in the history of Ipswich Town. Dyer was the only English signing in the time of Ruud Gullit as a coach in Newcastle. He scored his first goal in the match against Portsmouth , but Newcastle were defeated 2-1 and Gullit was on leave a short time later as a coach.

On April 2, 2005, Dyer was involved in the championship game against Aston Villa in a scuffle with teammate Lee Bowyer . This resulted in a red card and a three-game ban (Bowyer was even sentenced to seven games and a fine of £ 200,000).

Dyer's time in Newcastle was always accompanied by injuries that severely limited his international assignments. In the 2005/2006 season, Dyer was still long-term injured due to problems with the Achilles tendon and for this reason came only a few appearances for his club and the national team.

In August 2007, he moved to West Ham United . On August 18, 2007, he made his Premier League debut for West Ham against Birmingham City. Ten days later he broke his leg in the Carling Cup against the Bristol Rovers and was therefore out for months.

On July 13, 2011, Kieron Dyer signed a one-year contract with Premier League promoted Queens Park Rangers . On January 8, 2013, he terminated his contract. Since then he has played in the English Championship for Middlesbrough FC.

National team

After his arrival in Newcastle, where he became a regular in right midfield relatively quickly, Sven-Göran Eriksson recruited him to the national team after he had previously been active for the school, U21 and B national teams. His first international match took place on September 4, 1999 in a 6-0 win over Luxembourg . Between 1999 and 2007 he had 33 international matches and was nominated for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea and for the 2004 European Championship in Portugal . He didn't score a goal.

Trivia

In August 2004, Dyer received a warning from club leaders after he was filmed urinating in public. In addition, Dyer was charged with a group rape of a 17-year-old girl in October 2003 that occurred at the Grosvenor Hotel , where Dyer was staying at the time. Furthermore, Dyer had an accident with his Ferrari when he drove the car into a bridge pier in the center of Newcastle.
