Martin Tyler

Martin Tyler (born September 14, 1945 in Chester , England ) is a British football commentator. He has been voted Premier League Commentator for the past decade. His voice is one of the most famous in English football. Tyler commented on Premier League games as well as European Cup and World Cup matches.

Player career

Prior to his time as a commentator, Tyler played soccer for the University of East Anglia at Norwich from 1964 to 1968 while studying sociology . After completing his studies, the Englishman worked for Corinthian Casuals from Tolworth in the English amateur league Isthmian League . After Tyler accepted the job as a commentator at the London broadcaster LWT, he now played in the selection team " Commentators XI" .

Commentary career

After graduating from university , Tyler contributed to the English soccer bible Marshall Cavendish's Book of Football. He was also the ghostwriter of the English soccer analyst Jimmy Hill in his column for the Times . At Hill's urging, he took a job at LWT and commented on a number of key games for the London regional broadcaster. After ITV host Gerry Williams was kicked out, Tyler became his successor and became more and more popular. His first big annotated game for a larger audience was the English second division match between Southampton FC and Sheffield Wednesday . After doing well as a commentator, he got a job at Yorkshire Television in 1976 , which also made him the circle of commentators for England at the 1978 World Cup . In 1979 he commented on his first European Cup final, Nottingham Forest against Malmö FF in the national championship cup, which the English won 1-0. In 1982 he commented on his first World Cup final. In the 1980s he became the predominant voice at major English and international football matches in England. Tyler joined Sky Sports in 1991 . Since 2006 the Englishman has been working for the Australian broadcaster SBS at major events such as the World Cup and European Championship. His main employer remains Sky Sports. Tyler was voted the Premier League's Most Important Commentator of the 1990s in 2005 . In addition to football, he also commented on netball , cricket and baseball .

He also currently takes on the role of one of the UK commentators on the FIFA video game series annually, along with Alan Smith , Alan McInally , Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend .
