Lesley Sharp (born April 3, 1960 in Manchester , England ) is a British film and stage actress .

Life and accomplishments

As an adoptive daughter, Sharp grew up well protected with Scottish parents in Formby, Merseyside, where she was born. Her birth mother gave her up for adoption after her birth because she did not want to take care of the illegitimate child. Even in her childhood she was very fond of acting and gained her first experiences.

When she was 18, she moved to London, where she worked at the Victoria & Albert Museum before attending the Guildhall School of Music and Drama . She began her acting career with first roles in the British film Rita, Sue and Bob Too and in the play Road . In 1989 she played the role of Jenny in Er? Want! You not? . In the following years, she played roles in several films and television series. Well-known among them are Nackt , Der Priester , and From Hell . She was also often seen in television productions by channels such as the BBC and ITV . Well-known series of these are, among others, Hot Suspicion and Doctor Who . She was also known in Germany for her role as DC Janet Scott in the British television series Scott & Bailey .

Since she concentrated on film and television for a long time, she neglected her stage career for ten years. In 2005 she returned to this industry and appeared in the play The God of Hell , for which the American playwright Sam Shepard wrote the screenplay. The actress friend, Kathy Burke , led the project. In addition to her film and television career, Sharp wants to be more active on stage again in the future.

Sharp plays the Quaker Lucy Canonbury, who witnesses a murder, in the Netflix original series Paranoid, which started in 2016 .

Sharp has been married to actor Nicholas Gleaves since 1994 . The couple live in London and have two sons.
