Scott & Bailey is a British crime series about a pair of female investigators in Manchester. It first aired on May 29, 2011 on ITV . The German premiere began on September 3, 2012 on ZDFneo . The series is based on the idea of Suranne Jones and Sally Lindsay ; Sally Wainwright wrote the script.

According to Suranne Jones, the names Scott and Bailey go back to the Old Bailey Criminal Court in London and the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Service New Scotland Yard .

content

The series is about the professional lives and cases of Detective Constables Rachel Bailey and Janet Scott. Both are employed by the fictional Major Incident Team (MIT) in Manchester and are directed by DCI Gill Murray.

Rachel and Janet are good friends with very different personalities: Rachel is impulsive and free thinking, Janet is subtle and smart. Janet is older than Rachel, married, and has two daughters. Rachel has no family, but a stormy and unstable relationship with lawyer Nick ( Rupert Graves ) in the first season .

Casting

It was originally intended that Sally Lindsay would play the role of Janet Scott, but she was prevented from having her twins, so Lesley Sharp played the character. However, Lindsay made a brief appearance in the second episode of the first season, Silence Is Murder , as Rachel's sister Alison. Sharp's husband, Nicholas Gleaves, took on the role of Janet Scott's lover, DS Andy Roper. Despite Lesley Sharp and Nicholas Gleaves' relationship, Lesley denied that this was a casting criterion.

The producers initially had an older image of DCI Gill Murray in mind, but eventually decided on 49-year-old Amelia Bullmore .

Locations

The interior shots of the series are shot in Granada Studios in Manchester, the exterior shots were shot around Greater Manchester . A branch of Barclays Bank serves as the backdrop for the Manchester Metropolitan Police headquarters, and an Edwardian house on Hamilton Road in Whitefield, Greater Manchester serves as DC Scott's former home , according to the Manchester Evening News . While filming there, a lighting technician stood on a faulty aerial work platform at a height of 12 meters and had to be rescued by the Whitefield Fire Station .
