Suranne Jones (* 27. August 1978 in Chadderton , Oldham , England as Sarah Anne Jones ) is a British producer and theater and film actress , better known she obtained mainly through television roles. She began her career in 1997 with a guest role in the award-winning British soap opera Coronation Street . 2000–2004 she returned to the series as Karen McDonald and gained first notoriety in the UK for the role. This was followed by roles in Vincent (2005-06), Strictly Confidential (2006) and Harley Street (2008). Her final breakthrough and reputation as a credible leading lady brought her in 2009 the miniseries Unforgiven , in which she played the convicted murderer Ruth Slater. In 2010, the four-part television drama Single Father followed , in which she also played one of the leading roles alongside David Tennant and Laura Fraser . In the German-speaking countries, her best-known role is that of the senior detective Rachel Bailey in Scott & Bailey (2011-2016). Jones and fellow actor Sally Lindsay also came up with the idea for the series. For the fifth and final season of the crime series, Jones also acted as executive producer (managing director). She has been married to Laurence Akers since 2014 and the couple lives with their son (* 2016) in London. In 2016 she was awarded for her leading role in Doctor Foster with the NTA and BAFTA-TV as best actress. In 2015 and again in 2017 she played the professionally successful but unhappily married family doctor Gemma Foster. Another award-winning leading role in Gentleman Jack followed in 2019 . life and career

Suranne Jones was born as Sarah Anne Jones. Her parents Chris and Jenny Jones worked as engineers and secretaries. Jones has an older brother, Gary. In fact, she was supposed to be called Suranne , as this was also her great-grandmother's name. Her father's priest, who also performed her baptism, was of the opinion that this was not a proper first name and forced the father to change it. Jones, who grew up Catholic, suffers from a phobia of wrists (arthronophobia), which she attributes to a traumatic "encounter" with a depiction of the crucified Jesus in her childhood. From 2001, Jones starred in the award-winning British soap Coronation Street , which made her very well known in Great Britain. In 2004 she left the series to turn to new projects. She received international attention in particular through the series Scott & Bailey (2011-2013) and Doctor Foster (since 2016), in which she played the leading role.

She lives in London and has been married to newspaper editor Laurence Akers since 2014. Their son was born in March 2016.
