Doctor Who / episode list

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This episode list contains all episodes of the British television series Doctor Who , sorted according to when they were first broadcast in the UK . Since 1963, with several interruptions, 38 seasons with currently 861 episodes with nominal lengths of 25, 45 and 50 minutes have been created.

A distinction is made between the classic series (1963–1989) and the new series (since 2005). The numbering of the seasons has been reset in the new series. So there are two first seasons: that of 1963 and that of 2005.

In the classic series, since episode 119 (3.38) / storyline 26 (The Savages), the individual episodes of a storyline no longer have individual titles, but rather have the title of this storyline followed by Part 1 , Part 2 , etc. In the new series have up to The two- parter The End of Time and Spyfall all single episodes have their own title, even if the plot spans several episodes. Plot lines that go over several episodes are highlighted in color in this list and also have a common number if they are not only linked by a framework story .

Lost episodes

As Lost Episodes (Missing / Lost Episodes) the episodes are called, which were destroyed in the archives of the BBC due to the wiping policy of the BBC from 1967 to 1978 and of which so far no copies were found. From some of these episodes, film snippets are still preserved. B. were shown in the children's series Blue Peter , the tapes of which were revoked, or which initially fell victim to censorship in various countries and therefore remained unlike the broadcast material. Most episodes also have promo pictures and so-called telesnaps , which were made by John Cura as preview pictures for possible resale in front of a television set. Many fans also took pictures of the televisions, recorded the sound or even filmed the screen with standard 8 mm cameras, so that every episode is at least completely preserved in audio format. With the help of these preserved parts, teams of fans who were founded especially for this purpose were able to make reconstructions in order to better convey the consequences. All the lost episodes were published by the BBC as audio books, to which a narrative voice from one of the main actors involved was added.

The last finds of previously lost episodes date from 2011 and 2013. Nevertheless, 97 episodes have been lost to date, 9 of them from season 1, 2 from season 2, 28 from season 3, 33 (5 first and 28 second doctor) from season 4, 18 from season 5 and 7 from season 6. Extensive information on the background and results of the reconstruction can be found in the English Wikipedia under Doctor Who missing episodes .

Furthermore, some missing episodes were re-animated over the years and released on DVD, such as the missing parts 1 and 4 of the eight-part storyline The Invasion .

Due to a strike, the Shada storyline was not completed and therefore never
aired on television. However, the storyline was released on VHS in 1992, with narratives from
Tom Baker , the doctor of the storyline, being used to fill in the missing footage
. The episodes of the storyline do not count towards the total episode count.
In December 2017, Shada appeared completely for the first time in 38 years. For this purpose, the missing parts of the
episodes were filled in with animated scenes spoken by the original actors and new scenes were re-shot with
original camera and television equipment from the 1970s and the original actors.

Night and the Doctor consists of the episodes Bad Night , Good Night , First Night , Last Night and Up All Night . The first four episodes show the Doctor three of his sleepless nights in the TARDIS. In Bad Night and Good Night , Amy cannot sleep and catches the doctor returning from secret excursions. In First Night , River Song spends the first night in the TARDIS when a slightly older River takes refuge in the TARDIS while fleeing from the Sontarans. In Last Night , she is followed by a third, this time much older River, who is actually on a date with the doctor and made a mistake in the TARDIS door. A second (also older) eleventh doctor stumbles behind. The couple are on their way to the Singing Towers of Darillium. Both versions of the doctor assume that this will be the last evening together before River's death in Silence in the Library (N 4.08). In contrast to the previous mini-codes, Up All Night is conceived as a prequel to episode 6x12 and shows Craig and Sophie Owens with their son Alfie on the evening before the doctor visits them again.
