Chris Chibnall

Chris Chibnall (* 1970 ) is a British screenwriter best known for working on scripts for television series such as Doctor Who , the Torchwood branch and the crime series Broadchurch .

life and career

Chibnall grew up in Lancashire and studied drama at St Mary's University College in Twickenham and the University of Sheffield . He started his career as a playwright and has been writing for British television since 2001. In January 2016 it was announced that Chibnall would succeed Steven Moffat as showrunner on the BBC series Doctor Who . Chibnall was also responsible for the casting of a suitable actor for the thirteenth reincarnation of the doctor to succeed Peter Capaldi . His choice fell on Jodie Whittaker , with whom he had previously worked for Broadchurch . Whittaker is the first woman to star in the lead role of the Last Timelord since the cult series began in 1963.
