British Independent Film Awards 2004
The 7th British Independent Film Awards ceremony took place in 2004 at the Hammersmith Palais in London (Hammersmith). It was moderated by Richard Jobson.
The most successful film of the year was Vera Drake by director Mike Leigh with Imelda Staunton in the lead role. The film received a total of six awards (Best Film, Best Director, Best Production, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Supporting Role), making it the most successful film of the British Independent Film Awards (as of 2007). Vera Drake received another nomination for best screenplay, but had to admit defeat in this category of the horror comedy Shaun of the Dead by director and screenwriter Simon Pegg .
The award for the best foreign independent film went to the South Korean thriller Oldboy by director Park Chan-wook .
