The 3rd British Independent Film Awards ceremony took place in 2000 at the Café Royal in London. The moderator for the evening was Richard Blackwood.

The most successful film that year was Billy Elliot - I Will Dance by director Stephen Daldry, with four awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Newcomer, Best Screenplay) and one other nomination.
