British Independent Film Awards 2016

The 19th British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) ceremony took place on December 4, 2016 at Old Billingsgate in London . It was hosted by British actress and screenwriter Jennifer Saunders .

The most successful film of the year was the British-American drama American Honey , which won five nominations in the categories of best film, best actress ( Sasha Lane ), best technology (Robbie Ryan (camera)) and best director ( Andrea Arnold ) . The seven-time nominated film drama I, Daniel Blake by director Ken Loach only won the award in the categories Best Actor (Dave Johns) and Most Promising Newcomer (Hayley Squires).

This year the award was given in two new categories: Breakthrough Producer , to highlight promising talent among producers, and Debut Screenwriter for first-time screenwriters.
