Upper West Side
The Upper West Side ( German Upper West Side ) is a neighborhood in New York City in the United States . The name comes from its location in the northwest of the Manhattan borough . It is located north of Midtown , which is dominated by high-rise office buildings, and is bordered by Central Park to the east, the Hudson River to the west and 59th Street to the south. The northern border is historically on 110th street, but is now sometimes also indicated with 125th street due to changes in the population structure . Central Park divides Manhattan between 59th Street in the south and 110th Street in the north into the Upper East Side and Upper West Side.
The quarter is characterized by a mix of apartments, restaurants, shopping and culture. The Lincoln Center with the Metropolitan Opera , the New York City Opera , the New York City Ballet and the New York Philharmonic is located here, as is the Museum of Natural History with its planetarium . Most of the residents of the Upper West Side belong to the upper middle class. In contrast to the Upper East Side, the neighborhood counts rather than home to the educated middle class American-style town, which sometimes also the seat of the resident Columbia University related.
The movie The Apartment by Billy Wilder plays primarily in the area.
The Disney Channel series Jessie is also set in the neighborhood.
