Jason Lee (actor)
Jason Michael Lee (born April 25, 1970 in Huntington Beach , California ) is an American actor and film producer . He is known from various films penned by Kevin Smith . Before he became an actor, he made his living as a professional skateboarder.
Career
Jason Lee grew up in California and was passionate about skateboarding at an early age. To turn pro, he dropped out of high school at 16 and made a name for himself in the scene. In the early 1990s he took part in some music videos and thus got access to the film business. He had his first (still silent) role in a film in 1993 in Mi vida loca . Two years later followed his first speaking role in the film Mallrats by Kevin Smith . The shooting was the beginning of a long friendship with Kevin Smith, from which many projects emerged.
After two more films by View Askew (Kevin Smith's production company), Jason Lee starred in Kevin Smith's third directorial work, Chasing Amy . In it he played Ben Affleck's friend and was awarded an Independent Spirit Award for his performance . In the film Kissing a Fool (1998) he was supposed to conduct a loyalty test for his film friend, played by David Schwimmer , and seduce his wife. His first major Hollywood production was The Public Enemy No. 1 from 1998, in which he observed something he shouldn't have seen.
He then worked again with Kevin Smith and turned dogma with him . He plays the demon Azrael and tries to support the two fallen angels Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as best as possible. In Mumford he embodies a young eccentric multi-billionaire who is looking for the right woman. As the lead singer of the group Stillwater he is in Cameron Crowe's directorial work Almost Famous , and together with the devious duo Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt in Heartbreakers - Warning: Sharp curves! . His next projects included the Kevin Smith film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Vanilla Sky by Cameron Crowe.
In 2005, Jason Lee took on his first leading role in a television series. He played the crook Earl J. Hickey in the comedy series My Name Is Earl until 2009.
Lee has been married to model Ceren Alkac since July 2008, with whom he has a daughter and a son. His first marriage to Carmen Llywelyn was divorced in 2001. With his former fiancé Beth Riesgraf , the actor also has a son, who was born in 2003. Jason Lee was a longstanding member of the Church of Scientology ; In September 2016 he stated in an interview that he was no longer a Scientology member.
