A Guy Thing ( A Guy Thing ) is an American film comedy from Chris Koch from the year 2003 .

action

Paul Morse is about to marry Karen Cooper, his boss's daughter. After his boozy bachelorette party, he wakes up in bed next to the "ticket dancer" Becky. He can't remember anything, but everything indicates that he and Becky had sex. He quickly smuggles her out of his room because Karen is on her way to him. He desperately tries to make Becky's bikini panties disappear, which she has forgotten. As soon as Karen is gone, he asks Jim what happened last night, but he too is hungover.

When Paul is on his way to work the next day, he runs into Becky again by chance, but continues to the office where his future father-in-law is waiting for him. While Paul is about to give a presentation there, he notices a noticeable itch between his legs. He can't keep still in front of the assembled workforce and takes refuge in the toilet. As the itching and burning sensation increase, he wants to get a remedy for pubic lice from the pharmacy - but when he meets his future mother-in-law there, he tries to downplay the situation.

Paul's parents Buck and Dorothy arrive at Karen's parents' house for the celebrations. Paul is horrified to discover that Becky is also one of the guests, because she is Karen's cousin. To prevent Becky from seeing him, Paul wants to evade the situation and hides in the bathroom under the pretext that he is not feeling well. Nevertheless, he suddenly stands across from her, but she too pretends to see him for the first time.

Paul wants to talk to Becky alone and looks for her in the music store where she is currently working. She shows that she will not reveal anything about their evening together. But her former friend Ray has photos of Becky and Paul in clear poses. He's with the police and has them monitored. Now he threatens Paul and Karen wants him to report the attack. When the police officers take the description of the person on record, Paul describes a fictional perpetrator so that one does not come across Ray because he is afraid of him. Shortly afterwards Becky answers because Ray has also shown her the photos. She wants Paul to help her get the negatives from Ray's apartment. This is how they meet when Ray is on night shift. However, Ray has a vicious dog that they have to outsmart first. Proud of their success, they pass the time together and drive through the night, but Ray has them in his sights. He stops Paul's car and arrests him, allegedly he had drugs in the passenger seat. The police noticed Ray because of his unfair methods and he is being investigated internally. So Paul is released again and comes just in time for the rehearsal dinner for the wedding. However, he's wired up so he can help catch Ray. So he doesn't say much himself. His brother Jim holds a real hymn of praise for Karen, which suggests that he is in love with her himself. Paul therefore doubts whether he should really marry Karen and goes to his apartment. Surprisingly, he meets Ray there, who is already waiting for him. Since Paul is under surveillance, it doesn't take long and Ray is taken away.

On the day of the wedding he talks to Jim again in the bathroom about the night with Becky. Karen's father unintentionally overhears this, but he only says to Paul: We are hunters. Since the priest also knows about Paul's ominous night of love with Becky, he delays the ceremony in his address so that he can get Paul to make a public confession. And in the end Paul realizes that he and Karen were not made for each other and that the Reverend shouldn't trust them. In doing so, he encourages his brother Jim to also publicly confess that he loves Karen. He asks Paul to marry Karen and they both leave the church overjoyed. The wedding party reluctantly dissolves and Paul hurries after Becky, who is driving away in a taxi. The taxi stops again and Paul, out of breath, gives Becky a kiss and they drive off together in the taxi.

Reviews

Kino.de writes very positively: "With a young, convincing cast of actors, director Chris Koch (" Snow-Free ") is taking his relationship fun to the extreme. Highly recommended for everyone who is faced with decisions! "

Jürgen Armbruster at filmstarts.de awards 2 out of three possible stars and writes that the film can neither be recommended nor warned about it. He criticizes the lack of originality and the "mostly too obvious" gags. Even if there is “one or the other scene that makes you laugh heartily, [...] [so] the feeling creeps over the entire season that more would have been possible here and that some of the existing potential is wasted has been."

Peter Travers wrote in Rolling Stone of January 24, 2003 that fans of Julia Stiles, Selma Blair and Jason Lee should consider seeing the actors at the low points of their careers.
