The song uses a voice sample from the song Tu vuò fà l'americano and was first released as a download on February 27, 2010. The single reached number one in the charts in Germany , Austria , Switzerland , Denmark , the Netherlands , the United Kingdom and Sweden , among others . The song, written by Nicola Salerno , Renato Carosone , Duncan MacLennan and members of the band Yolanda Be Cool, Johnson Peterson and Sylvester Martinez, won the ARIA Award 2011 for Best Dance Release . The title also appears in the films Sex on the Beach and Hop - Easter Bunny or Superstar? in front. The music video for the song was shot by Andy Hylton.

The original version of the song Tu Vuò Fà L'Americano by Renato Carosone was sung by Sophia Loren in the film It began in Naples .

'We No Speak Americano' is a club smash built around a socking great sample from an old Italian language hit from the 1950s - to which the knob-twiddling trio have added beats as bouncy and eager-to-please as a Labrador pup at din -dins time. The result is far from unappealing but roughly as repetitive as the musings of a drunken depressive, so enjoy it now before that mate of a mate with a fondness for novelty ringtones gets hold of it.
