Nicola Salerno (born March 11, 1910 in Naples , † May 22, 1969 in Milan ), also known as Nisa , was an Italian songwriter and illustrator .

Life

In the second half of the 1930s, Nicola Salerno moved to Milan. He began his career as a draftsman, for example of covers of various Neapolitan pieces of music.

Afterwards he worked with Gino Redi: La bambola rosa (1937), Tango del mare (1939), Oi Marì (1941), La strada del bosco (1942) and Notte e dì (1942) were created.

In the post-war period, Eulalia Torricelli (1946) was his first success. The song tells in a humorous way of an unfortunate love story between a wealthy girl from Forlì and a boy named Giosuè.

Nisa also wrote classics such as Acque amare (1953), Accarezzame (1954) and Guaglione , which won at the Festival di Napoli in 1956.

In 1955, the director of the Edizioni musicali Radio Record Ricordi , Mariano Rapetti , Nisa and Renato Carosone proposed a collaboration for a radio competition. Nisa appeared with Carosone with three texts to be set to music, one of which was entitled Tu vuò fa 'l'americano . The latter inspired Carosone so much that he immediately began to compose a boogie-woogie . The song, created in a quarter of an hour, became a worldwide success. This was the beginning of a happy and productive collaboration. Often a little nudge from Carosone was enough and Nisa would come up with an entertaining story. Some of her best known pieces are: O suspiro , Torero , Caravan petrol , Pigliate 'na pastiglia and O sarracino .

In the 1960s Nisa took part in the Sanremo Festival with È vero ( 1960 ), Non ho l'età (per amarti) (1964, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1964 ) and La musica è finita (1967).
