Eltern is a monthly German magazine founded in 1966 aimed primarily at parents. It is published by the Hamburg publisher Gruner + Jahr and is created by a family editorial team that also uses the urbia.de website . The editor has been Marie-Luise Lewicki since the end of 2017, who previously was editor-in-chief from her parents for 16 years . The family editorial team is headed by Bernd Hellermann, Rosa Wetscher and Franziska Klingspor. The sold circulation is 116,781 copies, a decrease of 73.3 percent since 1998.

The magazine covers almost all topics that parents may be interested in. This ranges from the desire to have children and pregnancy , through the upbringing and development of babies and toddlers , from childcare and everyday family issues to health , nutrition and partnership problems to the role of the father and child-friendly holiday homes.

The widely read magazine played a special role in the discussion about new styles of upbringing and pedagogy in the 1960s and 1970s . Sex education and children's shops were also examined, as were anti-authoritarian upbringing or slapping as a (now forbidden) educational tool . Otto Schuster was editor-in-chief at the time .
