Joiz Germany (own spelling: joiz Germany ; pun from English joy 'joy' and choice 'choice') was a private German offshoot of the Swiss television broadcaster Joiz , which was aimed at a younger target audience. The television station was based in Berlin-Friedrichshain . The station went on air on August 5, 2013 at 5 p.m. and was financed primarily through advertising. The broadcasts could be co-designed by the television audience via chat , Skype and Facebook . The station has been approved by the Berlin-Brandenburg Media Authority (mabb) as a nationwide full television program with a focus on music, information, education, advice and entertainment. This was implemented accordingly by the "social television station" u. a. with interactive internet-based broadcast formats.

On September 16, 2016, Joiz was hired and ended his program with a two hour farewell show called "Leaving Room". Broadcasting via live stream and IPTV was maintained with repetitions, but can no longer be seen there either.

history

Broadcasting to start by December 2014

On January 28, 2013, the Swiss broadcaster Joiz announced that it would expand to Germany. It will start broadcasting in summer 2013. From March 4 to 15, 2013, moderator castings took place across Germany.

From March 21st to April 1st 2013 you could vote for your favorite presenter on the Joiz homepage. The winner of the audience voting was Maurice Gajda (Living Room). He thus became a moderator at Joiz Germany. In mid-May 2013, the remaining six moderators for the German offshoot were named. This also included Alexandra Maurer , who has been moderating at Joiz (Switzerland) since it started broadcasting.

On June 11, 2013, Joiz received approval for nationwide broadcasting from the Commission for Approval and Supervision (ZAK). The license was issued by the Berlin-Brandenburg Media Authority . As a result, August 5, 2013 was announced as the broadcast start date.

At the end of March 2014, the station's first image campaign started under the slogan: “Turn me on - nothing works without you!”. Since April 2014, the station reported its audience numbers. From October 15, 2014, Joiz Germany could also be received via A1 Telekom Austria - IPTV in Austria.

Bankruptcy in self-administration

On December 16, 2014 it became known that Joiz GmbH, which operates exclusively the German Joiz offshoot, has filed for bankruptcy. The station then submitted an application for restructuring to continue the company under self- administration and wants to stop broadcasting via conventional distribution channels and position itself exclusively as a web station. The reasons given for the station's financial position are, on the one hand, the high distribution and personnel costs and, on the other hand, the low television advertising income. The company also blamed the AGF / GfK quota measurement methods for the failure.

As a result of the bankruptcy, distribution in the Kabel Deutschland network was initially terminated on February 1, 2015.

Survival and holdings

Production of the original broadcast formats, such as B. Living Room, noiz, joiZone and Cut are discontinued. Since then, the station has been broadcasting mainly the daily programs Check-In and Live & Direkt , which are intended to merge and replace the content of the formats that have been sold.

At the end of February it was announced that the managing director Carsten Kollmus is leaving the company and Alexander Mazzara will continue to run the station alone. Several employees also had to leave the station, including the presenter Antonia Scheurlen.

On May 1st, broadcasting via the cable network and satellite was largely stopped.

At the end of May, the broadcaster announced that the media company M. DuMont Schauberg had acquired a 20% stake in the company and that the restructuring of the company had largely been completed. Britta Schewe was also appointed as the new managing director alongside Alexander Mazzara. In June 2015, the Berlin-Charlottenburg District Court lifted the insolvency proceedings.

At the beginning of July 2015, Nicole "Nic" Krüger moved from Radio Energy Berlin to Joiz. Previously, she hosted the show Noiz with Kevin Klose on October 14, 2014 because of a swap day.

On July 27, 2015, it was announced that Martin Tietjen and Melissa Khalaj are leaving the youth channel Joiz. Tietjen finished his arrangement on July 31st and switched to Sat.1 , while Khalaj is leaving the station on August 7th and works as a freelance presenter. On September 3, 2015 Julia Krüger announced that she will be leaving Joiz on September 25 and switch to RTL II .

Franziska "Franzi" Knappe also moved to Joiz at the end of October 2015 from Radio Energy Berlin. Shortly afterwards, Stefanie Langer switched from AIDA to Joiz at the beginning of November .

On May 17, 2016, the program was switched back to a linear track.

Setting the transmitter

At the beginning of September 2016, the Berlin property owner Uwe Fabich took over 80% of the company. Britta Schewe and some other employees were fired. Due to Fabich's new plans, the station in the form produced and broadcast to date was discontinued on September 16, 2016 and is to be replaced by a music station at the end of 2016. It was uncertain whether he would keep the name Joiz. In addition, the studio has been relocated from Postbahnhof at Ostbahnhof to Funkhaus Nalepastraße in Berlin-Oberschöneweide.

On Friday, September 9, 2016, the moderators in the broadcast Allgemeine Zentrale on the subject of “The most subtle broadcast in the world” criticized Uwe Fabich's plans. They particularly criticized the removal of furniture and office utensils while the broadcast was still going on and the plans to convert Joiz into a music station.

On September 14, 2016 it was announced that the current investor will discontinue Joiz in its previous form on September 16, 2016, which ultimately happened with a two-hour farewell show live. The station was to start again with a different concept under a new name and partly without the former line-up at the end of 2016.

On September 20, 2016, the station was withdrawn from the Unitymedia cable network due to the station setting.

On October 11, 2016, Joiz GmbH again filed for bankruptcy at the Charlottenburg district court. Christian Otto was appointed as insolvency administrator. Two days later the confirmation came that the sale of the 80 percent stake in Joiz GmbH to Uwe Fabich had been declared invalid and the sale had therefore failed. The future of the station is uncertain. All employees were fired. In the meantime, the station's website is no longer available and refers to Zattoo.

reception

Joiz was recently received via the live stream and as an IPTV stream on Telekom Entertain and Vodafone TV. There were also the Internet platforms Magine TV and Zattoo .

In addition, the station could be received on various mobile apps for Apple iOS and Android .

Joiz also had a program window lasting several hours on TV Berlin . From October 12, 2015, Joiz can also be received as a program window at Anixe during the night from 3:00 a.m. to 5:30 a.m., and from April 1, 2016 from 2:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. at Anixe HD Serie .

“The young broadcaster Joiz is surprisingly able to fill the gap left by the decline of the former music channel VIVA and to create a pleasant retro feeling. [...] "
