Joiz (own notation: joiz ; pronunciation as English. "Choice" for "option" ) was a private Swiss television station , whose contents were aimed at a younger target audience. The station went on air on March 28, 2011 and was financed primarily through advertising. The broadcasts could be co-designed by the television audience via Joiz.ch, WhatsApp , Facebook and Twitter . Music videos were also broadcast during and between programs . The transmitter was based in Oerlikon near Leutschenbach. Joiz was founded by Alexander Mazzara and Kurt Schaad, who all previously worked for Swiss television.

On August 5th, 2013 at 5 p.m. joiz started its own channel in Germany. Seat of joiz Germany was Berlin-Friedrichshain . The station was broadcast via satellite (Astra 19.2 ° East, on the Press TV slot ), Zattoo, IPTV, Magine TV and cable. But on May 1, 2015, the distribution on free TV was stopped after the bankruptcy proceedings applied for on December 16, 2014 had been opened for Joiz Germany on March 1, 2015.

On August 22, 2016, Joiz announced that broadcasting in Switzerland will be discontinued with immediate effect. Joiz Germany took over all frequencies from joiz Switzerland until it was discontinued in September 2016.

reception

Joiz could be received via digital television , Magine TV, Zattoo , via IPTV and analog cable TV . Since May 23, 2012 it has been connected to the UPC Cablecom analog network , replacing the BR . The Swiss Federal Administrative Court rejected a complaint from Cablecom against a decision by the Federal Office of Communications . Despite an order from the Federal Office of Communications, UPC Cablecom refused to include Joiz in the analog network, as neither “cultural nor social added value could be derived from the channel's“ trivialized content ”.
