ApeCrime was a German music and comedy trio until December 2019 , which became known through its videos on the YouTube platform .

history

2008–2019: Career on YouTube

The members of the trio, who come from Stadthagen , began to regularly produce videos from 2008 until their former channel ApeCrime was blocked. Immediately thereafter, the company was re-established under the name "ApeCrimeReloaded". Because of their studies, they moved to Hamburg in 2011 . Cengiz Dogrul and Andre Schiebler studied acting , while Jan-Christoph Meyer devoted himself to directing . In summer 2012 they broke off their studies and moved to Cologne in the newly founded Ponk flat share. At the end of May 2013 they moved from the Ponk flat share to their own apartment in order to be more concerned with their actual ApeCrime channel.

With the move, the trio began concentrating on music. On August 30, 2013, the first single I don't trust me was released . On the occasion of the video day , on August 24, 2013, in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne , ApeCrime had their first major live performance, where they presented their first single, which was released in Germany on August 30, 2013 and reached number 35 in the single charts. The official video has already been viewed over 16.8 million times, making it ApeCrime's most successful video. In 2013, ApeCrime was nominated for the 1LIVE crown in the “best video” category with “10 idioms # 4”, but it came last. On January 10, 2014, the trio's second single, "Swing dein Ding", was released, which was among the top 20 in Germany and Austria.

In the summer of 2014, the album "Affenbande" was released after the announcement. With the release of their album, ApeCrime started their first tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In advance of the release of their album, the two singles “Affengang” and “One of us” were released on August 15, 2014, and the single “Feet up” on July 18, 2014.

On November 29, 2014 Andre took part in the TV total high diving 2014 and made it to the second round, but then dropped out with the 8th place. In 2014 they were nominated again for the 1LIVE crown, which they won on December 3, 2014.

At the end of 2014, the comedy trio, like LeFloid and Simon Unge before, did not renew their contract with the YouTube network Mediakraft Networks . They have been a partner of the TubeOne Network since 2015 .

ApeCrime

ApeCrime at the Germany Web Video Prize (2014)

A new video was usually uploaded twice a week on their main channel. Up to four videos appeared per week until April 2015; On Fridays the main weekly video, which was part of her series "CrimeTime" , ran. ApeCrime mainly produced song parodies and series such as “Redewendung in Reallife” , “Like A Boss” or “10 Facts” . CrimeTime was discontinued as the main format on the grounds that they wanted to improve their channel, and videos are only uploaded on a Friday on certain occasions.

Every Sunday they published a "Let's Draw" episode. This was a format in which Andre and Cengiz mostly competed against each other and drew something on certain topics that the viewers had suggested in the comments on the last "Let's Draw". It was more about the behavior of the duelists than about the drawings themselves.

In addition, from May 16, 2015 until the end of 2015, part of the series 2G1B (Two Guys, One Bet) with Andre and Cheng Loew was broadcast on Saturdays. The second part of 2G1B was published on the following Tuesday. In the Saturday video, the first part of a video sent in by viewers was always shown. In this video clip the actor says what he wants to do. Andre and Cheng then bet if he'll make it. On Tuesday the resolution appeared and the loser of the bet had to undergo a punishment. At the end of 2015, Andre and Cheng stated in a video that they would discontinue the format for quality reasons of the channel.

ApeCrimeTV

On February 19, 2014, they announced in a video on their second channel ApeCrimeTV that “GameTime”, which broadcasts on Tuesdays, would be discontinued for the time being. The reason for this was stress and lack of time. In late summer 2014, when their tour was drawing to a close, they began regularly uploading videos to ApeCrimeTV again. For over a month there were two videos a day, once the new "Gametime" with Let's Plays and a vlog video in which the three boys told viewers about their lives and / or answered questions from their community with the #andieapes. The Let's Play project has now been temporarily suspended. On January 8, 2015, the trio announced on their main channel that due to legal difficulties, no new videos would appear on ApeCrimeTV. From April 2, 2015 to December 31, 2016, videos appeared regularly on the second channel.

Cooperations

ApeCrime often created videos together with other YouTube channels, such as Dner , Y-Titty , iBlali , Joyce Ilg , Cheng Loew , Taddl or Simon Unge, which were then uploaded either on their own channels or on those of their partners. During the 2014 World Cup , ApeCrime was seen together with Bullshit TV on the Coca-Cola- launched channel Coke TV, which also hosted the Coke TV Community Cup .

2017–2018: “New beginning” with a focus on music

On December 31, 2016, the trio's videos were removed from both public channels, making it appear that the group had deleted all of their videos. The channel banner and the profile picture of the main and secondary channels have been replaced by black images. The three also removed their posts from social networks. After numerous speculations about a dissolution up to and including the death of Cengiz circulated on various platforms and forums, ApeCrime made a detailed statement on January 8, 2017 on Facebook. They stated that they could no longer identify with old formats and videos in many ways. They would have evolved over the years. Furthermore they wanted to concentrate more on their work in the field of music. They criticize the allegations that they would produce music solely for profit reasons and wanted to counteract this with the studio album Exit and the tour of the same name. At the same time, the single Zombie was her first upload since her channel was emptied. Among other things, Nikeata Thompson was responsible for the choreography . On April 27, 2017, ApeCrime completely canceled their entire exit tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland in a press release , two weeks before it began.

After they made another statement about their realignment in a video on their second channel, they put their videos back online on January 14, 2017 at the request of their community. On January 20, 2017, a video of their category 10 phrases in real life appeared on the ApeCrime channel ! which they have been actively running since 2012. Videos were also uploaded on the ApeCrimeTV channel, which are similar to the videos before the “new beginning”. Because of this, ApeCrime was accused by various web video producers of having initiated the campaign as a PR campaign from the start. The resulting effects, which went so far that the rumor spread that Cengiz had passed away, received harsh criticism.

As a result of their monkey gang tour 2 , new videos only appeared very irregularly on their main channel.

2019: dissolution

As of September 2019, new videos have not been published on any of their shared YouTube channels. All members actively devoted themselves to their own channels ( OHMEYGOD , cengo and Anderson ).

On December 14, 2019 Andre Schiebler published a video on Instagram in which he officially announced the breakup of the trio. After a statement by Dogrul on this matter, Meyer was the last to comment on the dissolution on December 30, 2019. He announced that due to the different views there will be no more joint video on this topic. In principle, interpersonal differences led to the dissolution.

mascot

The ApeCrime mascot was a gray monkey with a black bandit mask. Its name "Apic" was chosen by the community. A memorial in the form of its red predecessor was erected at VideoDay 2013. The mascot was designed by Cengiz.
