Ponk was a YouTube channel that regularly published comedy videos through October 31, 2014 . The channel was launched on October 22, 2012 as the first original YouTube channel in Germany by Mediakraft Networks and produced by its subsidiary Kultframe . Ponk stands for “perfectly oriented new comedians”.

Story, concept

The concept for Ponk was developed by Philipp Laude ( Y-Titty ) , among others . After just one month, the channel had 100,000 subscribers, the number of which rose to almost half a million during the channel's heyday.

The production in a specially formed shared apartment became the model for many other Youtuber shared apartments and ran with different line-ups for two years. Comedy videos were published on the channel up to five times a week, most of which were produced by the members of the Ponk WG with the support of editors, editors and speakers employed by Mediakraft. The actual Ponk flat share was on the 6th floor of an office building rented by Mediakraft in Cologne. In addition to the mostly present WG members, other Youtubers such as TC , iBlali and The Clavinover appeared in numerous episodes . Pop singer Roberto Blanco and stand-up comedian Luke Mockridge also had guest appearances . Some guests such as B. Petty ( Ooobacht ) and Maxi Gstettenbauer were present over several episodes. Despite the considerable number of viewers at times and around 7 million views per month, the production, which is very complex for YouTube standards, was not economically successful. On October 31, 2014, the last video was released on the channel and production ceased.

On August 29, 2013, Mediakraft started an adaptation of the Ponk concept in the Netherlands under the channel name Ponkers . A Polish version was launched on September 1, 2014. Both formats are still in production today and have now exceeded the number of views of the German original.

Ponk also acted temporarily as the umbrella brand of Mediakraft Networks for comedy (now Comedynet ).

Members

When it was founded in 2012, Andre Schiebler, Cengiz Dogrul, Jan Christoph Meyer , Julian "Julez" Weißbach and Lucrezia "Lucy" Phantazia moved into the Ponk flat share.

In the YouPonk episode of March 30, 2013, Lucrezia Phantazia announced that she would no longer be part of the shared apartment. In the future, however, she will be involved in other video productions as a guest actress or dancer. As his successor, Joyce Ilg joined the Ponk WG in April 2013. But she did not move into the actual apartment herself.

On May 22, 2013, the ApeCrime members, who were often absent in the previous episodes, announced that they wanted to invest more time in their increasingly successful own channel and therefore reduced their involvement and appearance in Ponk. At the same time it was announced on Ponk's Facebook page that the ApeCrime members were moving out of the Ponk flat share. On October 3, 2013, Julian "Julez" Weißbach announced in the Street Ponk episode that he would no longer take part in Ponk.

While working for Ponk was the springboard to a career as a YouTube star for many cast members such as Joyce Ilg and Julez, the success of the channel suffered considerably from the departure of the popular first line-up with ApeCrime. After the monthly video views dropped to the one million mark in January 2014, there was a relaunch with new members, which in the short term once again led to a slight increase in video views. However, it did not bring about the expected sustainable change.

On October 31, 2014, Sebastian ("RedJacketMan") and Marc ("Dr. Cock") announced the official end of Ponk.
