Felix von der Laden (also Dner ; born June 25, 1994 in Reinbek ) is a German web video producer and amateur racing driver who gained fame through the publication of Let's Plays and Vlogs on his YouTube channel .

Life

Felix von der Laden grew up with his siblings in Lübeck . From August 2004 to January 2006 von der Laden attended the Ernestin School in Lübeck. After passing his Abitur at the Lauenburg School of Academics in 2013 , he moved to Cologne to study. There he was involved in the planning and implementation of the Videodays , a large German YouTuber meeting, in 2013 . Between September and December 2013 von der Laden studied media management at the Rheinische Fachhochschule in Cologne. However, he dropped out of college on the grounds that running his YouTube channel was too time-consuming.

From 2017 to 2019 von der Laden was a racing driver in Motorsport with TeamGT and has been with Team Superdrink since 2020.

Von der Laden is operated by an artist agency called SPIELKIND MEDIA GmbH (until August 4, 2020 “25Mate GmbH”). SPIELKIND MEDIA GmbH is a marketing and production company founded by the store that specializes in the marketing and creation of digital content.

Media appearance and career

The store's first YouTube channel was created on June 11, 2011, and on July 23 of the same year he uploaded his first video to the platform. In this he presented a modification for the computer game Minecraft . This canal was originally called Dner , which the shop also began to use as an artist name. The name "Dner" was created by calling himself DönerDörk at a LAN party in the video game Battlefield 2 , although the game did not display the umlauts.

In the first years of its existence, the channel mainly contained classic Let's Plays from games such as Minecraft, F1 or Grand Theft Auto IV . On his second channel DnersWelt , he occasionally uploaded shorter, uncut videos and vlogs (the channel was closed in October 2015). In October 2012, von der Laden began “DnersTag”, a regular format originally conceived as an information and FAQ video series, which evolved over the course of 2013 in the direction of vlog. Especially in the early years he reached with Let's Plays for open world - computer game Minecraft a large, posh royal young audience; from 2014 his focus gradually shifted towards vlogs and real video formats moderated by him.

Between July 2012 and July 2013, the Lübeck-based company was able to increase its reach from 9,000 to 127,000 subscribers. In 2013 his best-of video DnerStyle was nominated for the web video award in the Let's Play category, in 2014 his videos DnerStyle 4.0 and Ein Tag im Leben von Dner were nominated in the Let's Play and VlP categories . In August 2014, his channel reached one million subscribers.

The move to the “YouTuber-Haus” (an association of YouTubers in an apartment building) at the beginning of 2014 was followed by several trips together on which they filmed their experiences - from California (June 2014) to a longboard tour across Germany (September 2014) to Scandinavia (March 2016). Some of these campaigns also received media attention. The “Roadtr7p” organized by the canal network Mediakraft Networks , in which von der Laden drove through Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and the Netherlands with six other YouTubers, also falls into this category. The great response that the travel videos found prompted von der Laden to focus more on this genre - trips to Great Britain (autumn 2015), the USA (June 2016), Uganda (October 2016) and Southeast Asia (March 2017) followed. .

In 2016, its channels were restructured: Vlogs and other personalized videos are published on Felix von der Laden , the Dner channel shows gaming videos, and the Felix Laden channel contains some English-language vlogs . He is also occasionally active on the live streaming video portal Twitch .

Since November 2014 von der Laden has participated in various television shows such as the TV total Stock Car Crash Challenge , the TV Total Wok World Cup and Let's Play Poker . Von der Laden regularly moderates promotional videos for Coca-Cola .

Von der Laden was initially under contract with Mediakraft Networks , switched to TubeOne Networks in August 2015 and to the self-founded artist agency 25MATE in April 2016 . While 25MATE takes care of the marketing and organizational matters, Studio71 also looks after the channels of the store with regard to copyrights.

In February 2018 von der Laden announced that he would also be managing his merchandising company SPIELKIND himself in the future . To do this, he moved out of the so-called UFO and now runs 25MATE , SPIELKIND, as well as his own video production for his YouTube channels in a shared office called "die Base".

On April 11, 2020 von der Laden published the video Das ist: Felix von der Laden on his YouTube channel , announcing the end of the regular vlogs. At the same time, the weekly format Felix vs ... started by competing against different guests and the podcast "Backstage".

Motorsport

In 2017 von der Laden took part in the seven-race KTM X-Bow Rookie Challenge . In 2018 he drove in the GT4 European Cup for Team GT in a McLaren 570s , in 2019 he competed in the ADAC GT4 Germany , in which he achieved the first professional race win of his career at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. In 2020 von der Laden will be competing in the DTM junior series DTM Trophy, together with Jan Philipp Springob from Olpe.

reception

In 2014, Jan Böhmermann criticized the sympathy for the AfD at the time , which von der Laden made public with a declaration in the Bild first-choice campaign. There he said: “I choose the alternative for Germany. The established parties have distanced themselves from the citizens. ”Böhmermann commented that it was by no means harmless that someone who“ publishes regularly for almost 1.5 million young people spreads this […] ”.
