Flyover Country

2016 presidential election result by county (blue for Democrats, red for Republicans). The largely sparsely populated counties in the interior of the country went largely to the Republicans, while the Democrats dominated the cities and densely populated areas on the coasts.

Flyover country , flyover states or Flyoverland ( flyover country , overflight States ) are phrases in American English , the US states between East - and West Coast describe. The term is often used in a derogatory way and alludes to the two megalopolises , Boswash on the Atlantic coast and Sansan on the Pacific coast, where the economic centers of the United States are located. The name alludes to the fact that some inhabitants of the coast only know the much less populated areas in between from flights from the air.
