The game also has a career mode in which you can slip into the role of a Formula 1 driver and, for example, have to give interviews.

F1 2011

F1 2011 was released on September 23, 2011 for Xbox 360 , PlayStation 3 , Nintendo 3DS and Windows PCs. The developers integrated the innovations of the 2011 Formula 1 season into the game. These include DRS , KERS and the new Pirelli tires (KERS was used for the first time in the 2009 season). The safety car , which has long been requested by the community, has also been added to the game. The split-screen mode that was missing in F1 2010 was reinstalled in F1 2011 and there was the option of putting together a separate season with up to 20 races for the split-screen mode.

F1 2012

Several new modes such as the young drivers test , the season challenge and the champions mode have been introduced. There was also a new camera perspective, the so-called T-cam , which should be more similar to the recordings of the onboard camera. The Austin racetrack was added. Since F1 2012 only single races can be driven in split screen mode, a two-player season is no longer supported.

F1 2013

F1 2013 was released on October 4th, 2013 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Among the current Formula 1 cars, classic racing cars from the 1980s and 1990s are also used in so-called classic mode . In addition, F1 2013 contains four former Formula 1 circuits: Estoril (Portugal), Brands Hatch (Great Britain), Jerez (Spain) and Imola (San Marino). In addition, the Grand Prix mode from F1 2010 and F1 2011, in which you could put together your own racing season, was reintroduced.

The presentation of the routes should be reminiscent of a TV broadcast, such as scenes from the starting grid or award ceremonies. The game is commented on in the German version by RTL commentator Heiko Wasser . In addition, there is a new championship season, which replaces the career mode, a pro-season mode, multiplayer races as well as all teams, drivers and tracks of the 2015 season. reception

Codemasters first success dates back to 2010, when they made a very good impression with their title "F1 2010". Although they have not been as successful in the last few years, Codemasters has repeatedly won over with titles like "F1 2013" and especially in "F1 2016". This was the first time Codemasters worked with fans.

The main criticism of the series was that there were too few innovations up to the F1 2015 title . Some parts of the game were labeled as "tired updates".

Formula 1 driver Pascal Wehrlein said in an interview that F1 2018 is far from reality and the feel of the game, even with Playseat, cannot be compared to a Formula 1 simulator. Nonetheless, he still enjoys the game and, in his opinion, the routes are pretty realistic.

The 2020 edition was particularly well received by critics. The version for Xbox One on Metacritic achieved a Metascore of 91 out of 100 points, which it evaluates as a universal acclaim ("general recognition"). The computer game magazine GameStar named F1 2020 in its test at the time of the release in July as the best game of the series and "best racing game of the year so far". In addition to the improvements to the route and driving experience, the new My Team mode is particularly praised . In the interviews, as well as faces and animations, there is still room for improvement.

"F1 2020 expands the framework with an interesting mode, if it makes sense it becomes the best F1 game by Codemasters so far."
