The company emerged from CT Computec Verlag GmbH & Co. KG , founded in 1989 by Christian Geltenpoth in Nuremberg as a joint venture with Gong Verlag , and was listed on the General Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange from 1998 to 2013 . In 2005 the company, which had previously been managed by Geltenpoth, was taken over by the Swiss Marquard Media Group. On March 31, 2009, the chairman of the board, Johannes Sevket Gözalan , who had taken over the chairmanship of the board in 2005 from the company's founder Christian Geltenpoth, resigned. Gözalan's successor was Albrecht Hengstenberg and the publishing director was Hans Ippisch , who had been editor-in-chief at the publishing house since 1991. On October 1, 2013, Marquard Media took over the remaining shares through a squeeze-out , took the company off the stock exchange and converted it into a GmbH. In 2014 Computec Media took over the Linux and Raspberry Pi magazines from Medialinx . In 2017 Hans Ippisch became CEO of Computec, in June 2019 he left Marquard Media and switched to the console manufacturer Intellivision.

The most successful titles to date are PC Games, introduced in 1992, and SFT, which was first published in 2004 .

On July 1, 2016, Computec Media took over Areamobile.de .
