Johannes Sevket Gözalan

Johannes Sevket Gözalan (born February 14, 1960 ) is a German-Turkish manager . He is the founder and managing director of European Games Group AG and founder of Playata GmbH. From October 2005 to March 2009 he was CEO of the Fürth company Computec Media .

Career

Life

After acquiring the technical college entrance qualification in the field of economics in Munich and subsequent trainee training in an auditing company, Gözalan completed an extra-occupational degree in business administration , marketing and law.

From 1981 to 1985, Gözalan managed several family businesses, primarily in film and TV production.

In 1987 Gözalan founded the Turkish subsidiary of Warner Bros. and Warner Home Video. At the same time, he built up a company that took over the distribution of Columbia Pictures in Turkey. As a member of the European Marketing and Antipiracy Board , he helped develop strategies to contain black copies . He also ensured that the Turkish state central bank transferred sales shares from the cinema business as licenses to the foreign parent companies. As the markets in the east gradually opened up, he was appointed Regional Director Eastern Europe and New Markets for Warner in late 1988 .

From 1990 to 1994 Gözalan was the managing director of various subsidiaries of Hamburg-based PolyGram . During this time he was in charge of corporate development and the new media area and was responsible for logistics , sales and Polymedia GmbH. In 1994 he switched to the international level and headed PolyGram International (since 1999 Universal ) in London as Vice President Continental Europe in the New Technology area. From 1997 he was also CEO of Universal Turkey. He held this position until 2001. From 2000 to 2001 he also worked as a freelance consultant, for example for the Ergo insurance group with a focus on film, television and music media funds and for Burda Digital GmbH in Munich .

Following a sabbatical year , he decided in the second half of 2002 to support the Green politician Cem Özdemir and the federal board of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Berlin as target group and PR consultants free of charge as part of the federal election .

From November 2002 to December 2004, Gözalan was CEO of the Süddeutscher Verlag Hüthig Fachinformation GmbH, responsible for the turnaround , the optimization of the portfolio and the concentration on the core business. Following this, Gözalan worked as a consultant for VCL Communications until August 2005, focusing on theatricals, video distribution and production.

From 2005 to 2009 he was CEO of Computec Media . Gözalan resigned from his board position at Computec and left the media company on March 31, 2009 at his own request. His successor was Albrecht Hengstenberg, previously a member of the company's supervisory board. In the future, Gözalan will advise the Supervisory Board and Management Board on strategic issues.

He then founded the companies Playata GmbH and European Games Group AG, which he heads as managing director. Gözalan is involved in the Kreativpakt e. V., an association to improve the framework conditions for the creative industries.

Because of his “innovative strength and entrepreneurial initiative”, Frank-Walter Steinmeier awarded Gözalan the “Top Creative” award for innovation in 2012 from the self-employed working group. Gözalan is a member of the SPD.

In October 2015 Gözalan resigned from his position as managing director of Playata GmbH, his successor being Mathias Fabian.
