Thomas Dörfler

Thomas Dörfler (* 1966 in Munich ) is a German stage and costume designer and painter.

His professional beginnings go back to the mid- 1980s when he assisted his father Walter Dörfler and worked with directors such as Rudolf Nölte and Karl Paryla . This was followed by work as a freelance theater painter for theater, film and television, but mainly at the Münchner Kammerspiele with Alfons Ostermeier . There he painted for set designers such as Bob Wilson , Jürgen Rose , Ezio Toffolutti and Volker Pfüller .

As a painter, (individual) exhibitions followed in Schongau (Stadtmuseum 1994), Penzberg, Munich (Kunstpark Ost 2000; Forum 36 2001; IG Medien; BBK ...), Madrid (Galeria Montalban) a. a. From 1996 to 2003 he was chief stage designer at the southeast Bavarian city theater in Landshut-Passau-Straubing and has been director of equipment at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern since 2002 . So far, over 100 stage sets, including various world premieres, in Landshut, Passau, Zurich, Coburg, Pforzheim, Trier, Hof, Fürth, Münster at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich, the Darmstadt State Theater and the Palatinate Theater in Kaiserslautern are on his artistic account. Since the beginning of the 2012/2013 season he has also been associated with the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck as 1st guest stage designer, where he made his debut in September 2012 with Alfredo Catalanis La Wally . In 2014 he received a nomination for set designer of the year from the international opera magazine " Opernwelt " for his set design for Verdi's "Rigoletto". Such a mention followed in 2018 in the magazine "Die deutsche Bühne" for Stravinski's "The Rake's Progress" at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern.
